The birth of the seas which encircle Australia with its unique chain of marine environments – from Antarctica, to the storm tossed kelp forests of the temperate south, to the marvels of the Great Barrier Reef. It features the reproductive behaviour of corals and fish and their relationship to currents and tides. Part of a series of six programmes for Australia’s 1988 Bicentenary about the evolution of the island continent and its animals and plants. Three of the programmes were produced by David Parer for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Natural History Unit with BBC, PBS and the Australian Heritage Commission.
